I broke my nase in Fussen!

The German word for nose is nase. We know this now because I flew off a bicycle in the charming alpine town of Fussen* and broke my nose!!! Don't panic. I'm alive, and after spending 3 days in hospital, I was incredibly glad to receive my Get Out of Jail Card. It was also a clean break, but I did have to undergo general anasthesia and have an operation to fix it, as well as be monitored for two days in case my brain swelled up (if only my brain cells would swell - this would be a good thing after this trip! : ^ ) Needless to say, Miles thinks I may have to give up my Tour de France ambitions. Thankfully, this all happened at the very end of the trip - just a week before we were set to go home. Now I have a lovely plaster on my nose and the doctor says I cannot do any judo or karate for at least 2 months. DAMN!
Now, it's over to Miles to tell you more about Fussen and Munich, since he has not been locked in a hospital for 3 days.

Munich is the beer capital of Europe! It definitely had the best beer out of all the countries we visited. I have not been in Bavaria for about 25 years but it is still a beautiful part of Europe. We headed up to Fussen after Munich to stay in a typical Bavarian B&B with loads of geranium filled window boxes. We rented bikes and rode up to the famous castle through the woods and pine trees. The Neuwischtenstein Castle is amazing as it is perched on the side of a mountain. Afer we rode down to the Alpensee lake which is an amazing emerald green colour due to the limestone rocks. All was good until Tammy came off her bike the next day. The next few days I spent hiking back and forth to the hospital several times a day, organising things and seeing that Tammy was okay. Lucky this happened in such a great enviroment as I had plenty of fresh mountain air and Weisbeer at the end of the day to help me sleep!! Tammy is back to her usual nagging so she must be better now!!

Postscript from Tammy: Now we are back in Munich and just about to get on a plane to Singapore and then home. First stop, Ear Nose and Throat doctor to get my nose plaster off. Yippee. It's been a long and interesting journey with so many twists and turns. But we are now getting tired of living out of a backpack and ready to go "home". We don't actually have a home to go to as we rented out our house, but we are booked into an apartment in Bondi for a few weeks while we await for our house in Avalon to be vacated by our tenants. It could be up to 40 days so we will still be camping out in effect. It could be fun to live in a different place and see the city of Sydney from a different vantage point. More blogging may be needed to bring this baby full circle. Stay tuned if you're still feeling "nosy" to see what we're up to.

*Yes there is an umlaut (two little dots) over the "u" in Fussen, but blowed if I know how to add it in this blog thingy.
