OMG! We have rented the house, sold the bed, and almost sold the car. We are leaving in 2 weeks time! It's starting to scare me a little bit. Sometimes I wake in the night and can't sleep. It's not that I don't think we are doing the right thing. It is just such a big change quitting working, packing everything up and reducing your life to a backpack and 6 pairs of underwear (note to self, may have to buy underwear halfway through trip!)
Miles and I were talking it over at dinner tonight and said, what happened when you did this when you were younger? The answer is, you didn't worry about your finances because you DIDN'T HAVE ANY! No mortgage, no car, no kids, no dog, no wrinkles....aaaahhhh. It all looks better in the rearview mirror. Anyway, it's boring now. It will be more interesting when we are on the road.
First stop Singapore to visit the in-laws. I can taste the cold Tiger beer now. And then onto Bali for a month. We will need the chill time just to recover from turning our lives upside down.
I went to the doctor today and had blood pressure, weight, etc. tested. It's like going over the pits and having the tires rotated before you go on a road trip : ) She said all is good but my goal while I'm away is to maintain my weight, not lose, but not gain. FAT CHANCE (literally) when we hit those cheeses and red wine in France....will have to walk and walk and walk and walk....Hmmm. Just the thought of it is making me hungry.
so excited to find your blog and will be reading it all. We are a Canadian fiftys and saving for a RTW trip in 4 years. It seems such a long time to wait but by then we will have our last child (of 8) finished highschool. It's funny we were planning a trip 33 years ago when we found ourselves unexpectantly pregnant. So here we are finally....your trip sounds fantastic.
